Hapé ceremony
Sacred shamanic medicine
Rapeh (Hapé ceremony) is considered to be one of many sacred medicines from the Amazon that are used both to overcome physical, psychological and emotional blocks as well as gain tremendous insight into other, subtler worlds.
Rapeh ceremony (pronounced Hape) is a sacred shamanic medicine used by tribes of the Amazon as well as other South American indigenous cultures for thousands of years.
Ancient indigenous tribal cultures have long and healers.
Hapé is a preparation of powdered medicinal herbs, often with a tobacco base.
What are the shamanic snuff ingredients?
It contains Nicotiana Rustica, a type of tobacco also known as mapacho. It’s different from the tobacco used in cigarettes, which is Nicotiana Tabacum.
It also contains other medicinal and sacred plants, including parts from tree bark, leaves, seeds, and various plants. Once collected, the components become pulverized with a pestle, and strained through a mesh.
The result is a fine, light-colored powder. Different combinations of plants provide different uses and effects, and the exact recipe is often kept secret by the shaman.
How to take Hapé?
The effects of Hapé are experienced rapidly and intensely, because the powdered snuff is administered through the nose. The practice of consuming powdered plant medicines through the nose is much more ancient than we realized from the pre(dating Columbian days) and was first observed among the Brazilian indigenous tribes.
Hapé ceremony
In a Hapé ceremony, we first honor the spirit of smoke and then conduct an opening prayer handled by the facilitator. The participants are asked to have an intention in mind before receiving the Rapé which is served individually. The snuff is then administered by a special blow pipe called Tepi, one nostril at a time. Instructions as to the process are provided during the ceremony.
The experience of Rapé is quite powerful and can last anything from a few minutes to several hours and days.
Hapé can also be mixed with other mind altering plants, like coca, jurema, or yopo for unique effects. It is also known to potenti ate the healing capacity of other plants, like ayahuasca.
Furthermore, rapé is believed to help release emotional, physical, and spiritual illnesses, easing negativity and confusion, and enabling a thorough grounding of the mind.
Hapé benefits
From the indigenous point of view, Rapé is a sacred shamanic snuff medicine with profound healing effects. Rapé is made from different medicinal plants for different purposes to induce visions, to have energy, and to enhance the senses with the aromatic fragrance of the plants used in the blend.
During the retreat, participants will have the opportunity to experience the Rapeh ceremony with an experienced facilitator. All "Hapé" ceremonies are included in the price of the retreat.
Kambo is an incredibly powerful purgative, empowering us to clear away physical, emotional, and spiritual blockages. The secretion of the giant monkey tree frog, scientifically named the Phyllomedusa bicolor, contains protein chains called peptides. These peptides mimic our own body’s hormones and are able to permeate the blood-brain barrier.
